Can you tell us about the origin of the band name, a history of the band and a little bit about the various members?
Well, the band was founded around 2010 in Santiago de Chile, looking for musicians with the same approach to extreme music, it was not an easy task to establish a strong line-up but we think we were able to manage it. We are a 4-piece Death Metal band, formed by Camilo Anrique (Drums), Sergio Rojas (Lead Guitar), Tomas Verdugo (Lead Guitar) and Patricio Dosque (Vocals)
We don’t recall the specific moment when we thought about the band name, but at that time we were very into old forms of torture as lyrics theme, so we name the band as ‘Torture Machine’.
Are you all from the same area? How did you get together as a band?
We all are from the same city (Santiago) so it’s relatively easy to hung out and rehearse a lot. The original members of the band are Camilo & Sergio. Tomas joined in 2014 and Patricio in 2019. After several line-up changes, we were looking for a stronger foundation as a band, so we started some auditions and fortunately we met Tomas and then Patricio.
Who are your favourite artists/bands and how have they influenced your own sound?
We have a wide in musical taste terms, we love extreme music and our favourite genre is Death Metal. Bands such as Decapitated, Deicide, The Black Dahlia Murder, The Faceless have been a very strong influence on what we do. We also love the professionalism and dedication of bands like Meshuggah and Behemoth who are Titans on the current industry.
Did you always have the ambition to be a musician and in a band or did you originally have other plans?
As a metalhead, you always started listening heavy music since school days and thinking that one day you’ll be as great as the bands you love, but that’s a hard path to follow, specially here in our country, where culture development and artist support is so weak. We all have professional careers on other areas (except Sergio, who’s a musical producer) but we love to make music and being in a band, so we do this as ‘side career’, but with a great sense of passion and dedication.
What songs or albums are on your current playlist?
Decapitated-Organic Hallucinosis
Ulcerate – Stare into death and be still
At the Gates – Slaughter of the Soul
Hypocrisy – The Arrival
The Black Dahlia Murder-Nocturnal
Cattle Decapitation – Terrasite
The zennit Passage – Datalysium
Obscura – A Valediction
Meshuggah – Obzen
Do you sing in the shower?
Every-fucking-day
Do you have any plans for the band for this year and into next year?
Yeah of course, we have a couple of local shows scheduled for this year, the most important for us is being the supporter band for the show of Revocation in Chile. For the next year we haven’t planned that much, except for a summer show (February for us). There’re some international plans also but nothing’s been confirmed yet.
Do you currently have any new songs/albums ready to be released?
We released an album like 3 months ago so we’re not planning to release anything new on the near future, but, we’re working hard on a new album, rehearsing new songs, planning the pre-production and Studio recording. You can expect new material from us on 2024 for sure!
If you could play at any venue in the world where would you choose?
We’d love to play in Wacken someday, for us it’s like the Cathedral of extreme music, it’s easy to dream (lol) but impossible is nothing.
Do you have a favourite album? If so, what is it?
Camilo: Human – Death
Tomas: Organic Hallucinosis – Decapitated
Sergio: Revocation – Netherheaven
Patricio: Nightmares made Flesh – Bloodbath
If you were putting together the greatest show on earth, who would be playing?
Ufff that’s a hard one, but We’d choose: Meshuggah, Decapitated, Suffocation and Torture Machine
Can you remember the first album you bought with your own money? What was it and do you still have it?
Camilo: Meshuggah ‘I’ Ep Reissue, a jewel on my personal collection
Tomas: Revocation – Self titled
Sergio: Metallica – Master of Puppets
Patricio: Cannibal Corpse – Gore Obssessed
