The Metal Asylum Talks To… The Hill Is Burning

Can you tell us about the origin of the band name, a history of the band and a little bit about the various members?

Well, we lived in a small hill in the past, we are in reunion Island, and the weather is very hot here, sometimes, fire starts in forest or place like that. A very hot afternoon, a fire started just next our house, that was a very scary moment,by the way,that was very impressive to saw, The Hill Is Burning was born like that.

I’m the founder of the band, and for long time, I was the only member of the band. Here, it’s very difficult to works with good musician in our metal genre. Death metal is not the particular style of music of Reunion Island. The band is Eric Castelnau at the guitar,the guitar singer of Lomor, David Fringue at the bass a solid musician ,and Nicolas Belleville at drums.

Are you all from the same area? How did you get together as a band?

We all live in different city,but country is small, for rehearsal,we have something like 1 hour of road by car.In a previous band, We played together with Eric and David, with Nic, we work together for the first time, he come from a band call Nazca, an hard rock band, sometimes, double drums make him suffer hahaha.

Who are your favourite artists/bands and how have they influenced your own sound?

The band is influenced by Nevermore for the guitar, Sepultura(Beneath/Arise/Chaos AD) for vocal , Neurosis for the ambiance and Death metal band like Aborted, Death or Morbid Angel.

Did you always have the ambition to be a musician and in a band or did you originally have other plans?

When I was young, I’ve got this type of dreams, now not at all! Music is a big personal adventure.

What songs or albums are on your current playlist?

I listen music since I’m little kid, David Bowie or Depeche Mode was “mainstream” artists I love to listen, Prodigy so! Iron Maiden, Neurosis, Aborted , Nevermore, are the band I listen a lot! Recently I’ve Discovered Bleeding From Within, I really like this Band!

Do you sing in the shower?

Nope! I hate shower!

Do you have any plans for the band for this year and into next year?

This year, is maybe our biggest year! 3 singles release, and our 2nd release in 2 month, produce by Chris Clancy, with advice of Colin Richardson, great year for us!

For next year,we are gonna go on tour on Europe,we are so glad to start that!

Do you currently have any new songs/albums ready to be released?

2 album release the 20 October 2023.

If you could play at any venue in the world where would you choose?

That’s really depends with any band…but right now, Hellfest festival at Clisson,in France!

Do you have a favourite album? If so, what is it?

Ouch… can I say 3 ?   Neurosis-Trough Silver In Blood, Sepultura-Beneath the remains , Iron Maiden – Powerslave

Do you have any guilty pleasure songs/albums?

Hahaha, Soft Cell-tainted love!

If you were putting together the greatest show on earth, who would be playing?

Dead people…hahaha Jimi Hendrix Band, Death with Chuck Schuldiner, and Slayer with jeff Hanneman!

Can you remember the first album you bought with your own money? What was it and do you still have it?

Yes! 3ieme Sexe Indochine, a French rock band, I still have it!

As your fans will be reading this, is there any message you would like to send out to them?

So, we are so many proud to have fan around the world, that’s mean a lot for us, and they can believe us,when we say we gave all we have in our music!
