The Metal Asylum Talks To…Kivelak

Can you tell us about the origin of the band name, a history of the band and a little bit about the various members?

The origin of the band name is top secret actually haha, I don’t think very many people are going to figure it out. The band started as your typical one man black metal project and now it’s a much more experimental two man project. We keep out identity secret, not really sure why anymore, it just started that way.

Are you all from the same area? How did you get together as a band?

Yes we are both from Denver, Colorado. We’ve been friends since we were kids. Now we live in different cities entirely (St. Louis and Philadelphia) and we make our music remotely.

Who are your favourite artists/bands and how have they influenced your own sound?

Wow we have so many influences because we are total music nerds but here’s a list of some of our favorite bands; Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Thrice, Clutch, Mastodon, Queens of the Stone Age, Between the Buried and Me, Opeth, The Melvins, Slayer, Darkthrone, Modest Mouse, The Flaming Lips, Deftones, Explosions in the Sky, Baroness, Nine Inch Nails, Primus, CKY, King Crimson, Tool

Did you always have the ambition to be a musician and in a band or did you originally have other plans?

Well we’ve been playing together since we were kids, now we are adults with grown up jobs haha, but I think we look forward to playing music more than most other things in life

What songs or albums are on your current playlist?

Right now, the last two Gojira albums, Quebec by Ween, some later Fugazi, and some early Mastodon

Do you sing in the shower?

Yep every time

Do you have any plans for the band for this year and into next year?

Right now we’re actually working more on an alternative/post-rock project, but we’ll probably put out some more black metal next year.

Do you currently have any new songs/albums ready to be released?

We just released our new LP Fear and the Fire a couple weeks ago!

If you could play at any venue in the world where would you choose?

Red rocks man, love that place

Do you have a favourite album? If so, what is it?

Probably Animals by Pink Floyd

Do you have any guilty pleasure songs/albums?

The occasional Limp Bizkit haha

If you were putting together the greatest show on earth, who would be playing?

Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath

Can you remember the first album you bought with your own money? What was it and do you still have it?

Honestly I can’t remember what my first one was but I still own most the CDs I bought as a teen

As your fans will be reading this, is there any message you would like to send out to them?

If we have any fans, haha, thanks for listen to our weird music

Finally, let us know all your social media sites so your fans, old and new, can find and follow/like you!

We, at The Metal Asylum, would like to thank you for your time. Is there is anything further that you would like to add?

Thank you so much for helping promote underground music!
