Can you tell us about the origin of the band name, a history of the band and
a little bit about the various members?
Sorg is an Icelandic metal act, Sorg means Sorrow.
Sorg is the brainchild of the painter, Musician and phiosopher Mýrmann.
The influence for SORG combines both,a variety of disparate rock and
metal genres, also Mýrmann interest in history, romanticism, Icelandic
Folklores, Alchemy, and philosophy. Next album Norðandrekar is out
25.10.2022.
Mýrmann plays all Instruments, on the album, except for drums, they are
programmed drums. Also does vocals and all lyrics.
On the new record is also very promising young growler named Freyr.
Also a member of Sorg is a guitar player named Ari.
Are you all from the same area? How did you get together as a band?
Mýrmann and his fellow sorg team member come from Iceland, small
mystical and gloomy Island in the North.
Mýrmann lives and works in a small Village outside of the capital
Reykjavík. There he runs a painters studio. Selling his work both in Iceland
and abroad!
Who are your favourite artists/bands and how have they influenced your
own sound?
My favorite artists come from many places and periods. Some from the
blues up to very heavy music. I also listen alot to classic rock and epic
sound tracks. I honestly think everything I listen to have affected me in
some ways, from rumba music Spanish guitar to pink Floyd to Maiden, to
more modern metal genres.
Did you always have the ambition to be a musician and in a band or did you
originally have other plans?
Good question, yes and No, I always knew I would do something creative in
life. When I was a kid, I could always imagine myself as a rockstar, some
kind of magician. I had hard childhood, and part of this is that I always
wanted to been seen and loved I think. Wanted to Bee recognised as a
human being. My creation is my sanctuary, my peace of mind so to speak.
What songs or albums are on your current playlist?
These days I am listening to rotting christ, been listening to wasp ,some
flamengo music, brainstorm, some blues and many different metal bands
all over the place yes ))
Do you sing in the shower?
Haha, sometimes I sing in the shower, and in the car also. Don’t recommend
that thou, easy to get out of breath and feel dizzy ) not good while driving
hehe!
Do you have any plans for the band for this year and into next year?
Yes , new album coming out now, then another one draugar (Ghosts)
coming in March and also new album in the end of 2023. Guðir og Menn
(Gods & Men) so very hectic year ahead.
Do you currently have any new songs/albums ready to be released?
Yes, nordandrekar (Northern dragons) out 25.10.2022
If you could play at any venue in the world where would you choose?
My first guess would be Rock in Rio and Wacken and some very isolated
place in Iceland. On top of a glacier perhaps.
Do you have a favourite album? If so, what is it?
Wow, this is very difficult question. I can name few in no special order.
Pulse pink Floyd. Mutter, Rammstein. Painkiller, Judas Priest.
Rust in peace, Megadeth. Chemical wedding, Bruce Dickinson. And many
many more!
Do you have any guilty pleasure songs/albums?
Haha, yes alot. I think a good song is a good song, no matter the genre,
artist or style. I even like some songs from boy bands and the pop culture
yes, and not ashamed for saying so.
If you were putting together the greatest show on earth, who would be
playing?
Freddy Mercury, John Sykes, Geeser Butler, Joe Satriani,
Ronni James Dio, Nicko Mcbrain, that would be strange but very
interesting show.
Can you remember the first album you bought with your own money? What
was it and do you still have it?
If I remember correctly. I think it was Live After Death Maiden
As your fans will be reading this, is there any message you would like to
send out to them?
My message to the world is, please love and respect each other, we only
have so little but valuable time on this planet and we can always choose to
stay in the light not the darkness
